There is now a big review of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and people who are getting it are being asked to give their opinions before the end of spring. The first stage of the Timms Review, named after the minister for social security and disability, has begun, according to the DWP (Department for Work and Pensions). The review is meant to make sure that PIP stays “fair and fit for the future.”

The Express says that people who get the benefit are being asked to send in “evidence” from all over the country. The opinions of these people could help shape the future of the benefit and have effects that last for years. PIP helps people with disabilities pay for their extra living costs. Almost four million people in England and Wales get it.
It can be a vital financial lifeline by helping to pay for extra costs associated with long-term health conditions. The DWP wants to see if PIP is still working as intended because demand for it is said to be rising. Ministers will now check to see if it does what it was meant to do and if assessments give everyone a fair chance to get help.

They will also look at how different groups of claimants have different experiences and how changes in society and the workplace have affected who can get benefits. Those are the most important parts, and the results of the review should be made public in the fall.
But in the meantime, the government wants to hear from as many claimants as possible before making suggestions. It is asking for input from a wide range of people, including disabled people, their caregivers, doctors, charities, and MPs.
The meeting must happen by May 28. The DWP said in a post on X, “The Timms Review steering group wants to know what you think about the future of PIP.” The group’s first step, a Call for Evidence, is now open.
Sir Stephen Timms, the minister for social security and disability, has asked people to take part, saying, “It is important that as many people as possible have the chance to contribute.” Please send in your thoughts if you have used the PIP system before.
Dr. Clenton Farquharson, who co-chaired the review, said that the benefit has a “profound impact” on people’s daily lives, independence, and dignity. Sharon Brennan, who also co-chaired the review, said, “It is essential for the success of this review that we hear frank and honest views from as many disabled people, carers, advocates, and others as wish to participate.”That’s why this Call for Evidence is just the beginning of our plans to get people involved. We want to make sure that everyone can share their thoughts in a way that works for them.
The consultation will end at 11:59 PM on May 28, 2026. After that, the review’s steering group will look over the submissions. Officials say this is just the first step, and there will be more chances to help out as the work goes on.
