Many employees are enjoying a shorter working week, with one less day in the office this week and last. But there’s more good news on the horizon, as two more bank holidays are just around the corner.

The Early May Bank Holiday is slightly over a month away, followed by the Spring Bank Holiday on May 25. These additional breaks are set to give workers a chance to recharge before summer begins.
Substitute Bank Holidays: Christmas and New Year 2027-2028
Looking ahead, workers across the UK are in for an extended holiday around Christmas next year. This is thanks to the introduction of “substitute” bank holidays.

According to the Government website: “If a bank holiday falls on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday is designated as a bank holiday, typically the following Monday.”
Since Christmas Day (December 25) falls on a Saturday next year, this means December 27 and December 28 will be recognized as substitute bank holidays.

How to Get 10 Days Off at Christmas
For those planning their time off, if you take three days off between December 29, December 30, and December 31, 2027, you’ll enjoy a whopping 10 days off from December 25 until January 3, 2028. This is due to the substitute holidays for Christmas and New Year’s Day.
New Year’s Day 2028 will also fall on a Saturday, meaning that January 3 will be a substitute holiday.
Easter Bank Holiday in 2026
Looking at the upcoming Easter holiday, next year’s Easter Bank Holiday will fall between Friday, April 26, and Monday, April 29, providing another long weekend for UK workers.
