From April 1, 2026, the cost of a TV Licence will go up to £180 a year. The fee covers BBC shows and services, and the cost goes up every year until 2027, in line with inflation. This was agreed upon in 2022. A TV license costs £174.50 right now.

Last year, it went up by £5, and in 2024, it will go up by £10.50. The next rise will give the BBC “stable financial footing” to serve its audiences and help the creative industries as a whole.
Until the end of the BBC Charter Period, the licence fee will be based on the consumer price index (CPI). This is how the increase was calculated. This means that the price of an annual color TV license will go up by £5.50, which is the same as 46p a month.
